GBC

It's here!!! Tomorrow is the big LOSTies get together at the Gingerbread Cottage in Colorado!!! A whole weekend of hanging out with the girls and stamping. :)

I'm so excited, there will be 12 of us there in a cute little Colorado mountain cabin. We've been planning the details for over 6 months. I've been talking to these girls for over two years and I've met a few, but many of them I will be meeting for the first time. How cool is that???

We'll also be doing our Secret Sister gift reveal while we are there. I'm looking forward to seeing my Secret Sister's face when she finds out her package is from me. Oh and then there's my wrapping job. *evil laughter*

I have to say, I'm nervous and excited all rolled into one. I have to laugh at myself. I have probably packed more stamping supplies than clothes. How funny is that? I don't know what to take out. I hope I don't throw my back out picking up my luggage. LOL!

I'll take LOTS of pictures and report back next week!

Wake Up Call

Who needs coffee in the morning? I had another version of a wake up call today. We'll get to that in a minute. I do alot of thinking in my car. It's my best place to think up to-do lists or grocery lists. Too bad I don't keep a notepad in my car. I usually forget all about my list ideas by the time I get home. I've thought about getting a notepad for my car. But really, think about ME driving and trying to write. At the same time?!? Is this really a safe idea?

So today I was flipping through the radio stations looking for something tollerable to listen to. Saturday morning is often crappy radio. I flipped through the presets and found Footloose on the radio. I love this song. I did a little jig in my seat and proceded onto the freeway where I kicked up my speed a little bit, thanks to the peppy tune. This about when I get my morning Wake Up Call. I looked down at the station and saw that I was on the Oldies station. The Oldies station?! This where I listen to 70's tunes and OLD stuff! Footloose is now an Oldies tune??? This was popular when I was in high school. This is NOT RIGHT!!! This must mean I am old. I don't want to be OLD. *stomps feet, tantrum style* I am displeased. I will be writing a letter to the station. Just as soon as I remember to put it on my to-do list.

Twilight Obsessed

Three books--one week! I could not put them down. I was obsessed. Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series books are Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse.

Coming out on August 2nd, Breaking Dawn. I'm not counting down the days. But I am thinking about it. Alot. Roughly 2 1/2 weeks.
I'm also thinking about what I will do when I'm done with that book. I'm already hooked on the saga of Bella Swan and her vampire boyfriend Edward Cullen. How long can I wait for more? I'm also amazing at how many people I know who have or are reading the books. A half dozen in my office, and probably a dozen LOSTies. I haven't counted all of them yet. These are very popular books.
Ahhhh but then, there's December 12, 2008. Twilight the movie!! OMG!!! I feel like such a doof. I'm all gaga over a book being made into a movie. I just can't wait to go see it. Now after I finish book four, I have something to look forward to. I'm saved! *laughs*
Have you heard of them yet? Have you read them? Are you HOOKed like me? Who's your favorite--Edward or Jacob? TELL! Me...I'm more of a Jacob girl.

Oh Happy Day!

Ohhh happy day! Finally!!! WooooHOOO!!! Oh to be excited over a washer and dryer. It's what my almost 40 year old life has come to. But frankly... it's this or hanging out in a laudromat.

Wouldn't you be excited? Soo... my little boxy twins (LG TROMM) will be here later today. I can't wait to start 'em up and let 'em go! I have piles of laundry taking over my bedroom.

Interested in details? I've been bashing my head over deciding what to do. Our gas dryer bit the dust again. No heat. We had it fixed a couple months ago. The decision was, dump more money into a 10 year old dryer. Or buy a new one. Do we buy a new dryer only? Or get a new set. Get a new old school inexpensive top loader set? Or go green and get a water and energy efficient front loader set. I've researched online and looked in the stores. Would the new larger front loaders even fit in my laundry room?

I found out that with the new energy restrictions new top loading washing machines don't clean as well as their previous models. More anxiety. Front loaders are double the cost and if I was going to go that route, I didn't want to end up with a cheap lemon. It was well worth signing up with consumer reports to get the latest stats and customer reviews.

Some more great news--REBATES! Our power and gas company will give us a total of $180 in rebates just for buying these babies. Oh yes, we did buy the little booster seats. LOL. That's what I like to call the stands. I don't want to stand on my head to do the laundry. They're pretty sturdy and have nice divided drawers inside. I'm all about storage space!

Thanks Uncle Sam. The economy has been stimulated once again.

Batmobile

How the gas crisis has affected Batman....

Movie Fans

We watch ALOT of movies at our house. Blockbusters, thrillers, foreign films--we don't mind subtitles. We also choose alot of indie films, even scarry horror flicks, and your romantic comedy here and there.

We even watch some TV series on DVD, sometimes we find it more fun to watch a whole season of a show on DVD in one week rather than on TV for months. We do this with Weeds, Eureka, and Dexter.

NETFLIX is the way to go. We load up our favorites whenever we see a preview we like and when it's released it comes to our house. Well...not immediately. Our list get REALLY long around Oscar and Golden Globe awards season. We have quite a long list of movies we want to see. I doubt we'll ever run out of choices.

Since we see so many movies at home, we don't get out to the theater too often. Every now and then, there's something REALLY good that we can't wait for, or it looks like it should be seen on the big screen.

Just last weekend I *had* to go see the new PIXAR movie WALL-E. I'm a sucker for a sweet little robot movie like WALL-E. I loved it. I was almost in tears a few times. A couple of times during the movie I felt compelled to hold Shane's hand. I'm such a sap! When you see the movie, you'll understand. ~blushes~

Other movies we've seen lately are:
The Bucket List
Vantage Point
WALL-E
Definitely, Maybe
Stardust
The Spiderwick Chronicles
The Nanny Diaries
What Would Jesus Buy?
The Martian Child

My recent faves besides WALL-E are The Bucket List and Vantage Point.

Happy 4th of July

Hello friends! I hope you all have a fun and relaxing 4th of July.

Today at our house we are planning a little BBQ. I'm making my mom's faboo German potato salad. Some corn on the cob that we'll throw on the grill on their husks. Along with some gourmet sausages I've been lookin' to try. We have apple and asiago cheese, sun-dried tomato with motzarella and basil, and some plain old brats. For dessert I am going to try a recipe from the LOSTie cookbook it's Raspberry Pretzel Salad. What's a 4th of July without a Jello-O salad? *wink*

Later tonight we'll pull our lawn chairs out to the bottom of our driveway and watch all the fireworks shows around the whole Salt Lake Valley. We have a perfect view from our house of many area shows. I bought some small ordinances to keep Shane busy while we hang out and to give us that extra pyro aroma we crave.

What are you doing for the 4th of July?

The Over 30 Crowd

I don't know who wrote this...but when I read it, I crack up. It's got to be my age.

A MESSAGE TO THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD

If you are 30 or older you can relate:

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...uphill BOTH ways yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that...I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it! I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the dumb library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napster! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and mess it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Play station video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and' asteroids' . Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! ! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, too bad for you!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning.

Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little brats!
And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a real fire... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

Dryer my blues away...

So my dryer "done bit the dust". AGAIN! Arrrggh! I just had the stupid thing fixed in a couple month's ago. It wasn't exactly cheap. This is NOT in my plan people! I have a couch to dream about.

There are a few stamping websites giving away stamps and other blahg candy... does anyone know of one that's giving away a new washer and dryer set? No? Hmmmphf. Lottery that can be fixed in my favor? How about a "fell off the back of the delivery truck" special sale? *wink, wink*

Yesterday we went window washer (and dryer) shopping. Ha. That sounds funny. (Someone has to laugh at my lame jokes). I can't decide...do I fix my old broken dryer? Do I buy just a dryer? Do I buy a whole new set? Do I get a new fangled fancy set or just a run of the mill set? It's lookin' expensive either way. I really don't want some odd mismatched set. That will probably bug me forever. Okay, so that's one decision made.

See.... all these questions. I just don't want to think about it. In the meantime, I have clothes that will begin to pile up. There's my dilema. It's probably hot enough outside to leave my clothes on the patio to dry.

This is the dumb stuff I think about as I drive to and from work. That is while I'm not singing at the top of my lungs for the entertainment of other drivers. But that's another story. *wink*

Say Hello To My Little Friends...

Look into this monkey's face and try not to smile. Heheheheee! I laugh every time. He's just HAPPY! I love cute and funny stamps. This is sure one of them. And the sentiment "Have a Beach'n Birthday!" Well--that just adds to the fun. I also made one for a friend who just got a pool for the summer. I changed the sentiment to "Happiness". I think of her kids jumpin' in the pool to cool down. Ahhhh!!! Ohhh to have a backyard pool!

Anyway, this cutie is called "Pool Guy" from the Stampendous Changito Monkey stamp line. I added some caramel color fun flock to his body. So in person he's fuzzy. *eeek!*. I also added stickles to his goggles for a little extra pizzazz.

I used another one of the Inkadinkado stamp sets sent to me by my Lostie Secret Sister. (LSS). This one is called "Thanks A Million".

Hahahaa...he's pretty cute for a burglar, isn't he? I tried to make the card front look like a safe door... I added the pearl dot to look like the doorknob or handle. There's also some mini gemstones next to the money to look like coins. Eh? I thought so too. *LOL!*

Thanks again LSS-- you can tell me who you are anytime--I won't mind!!! *wink*

Happy Father's Day

Have a great day DAD, Torry, Shaner & John :)

Sending special love and hugs to you too Zak!

A Date With Ironman

My boyfriend, aka Shane, took me on a date the other day. We *finally* saw Ironman. Most movies like this we will buy, so sometimes we just wait for the movie to come out on DVD.

It was sooooooooo good! Robert Downey Jr. was H-O-T! And perfect as the metal man. Even my Geekboy approved. *wink* We walked out of the theater singing Black Sabbath's I AM IRON MAN with grins on as wide as can be!
Next date is with a large green Hulk of a man. And I'm not talking about the Jolly Green Giant. ;)

The Season is Ovah...

It's already ovah? And I have to wait until WHEN?!?!
OMG... another FABOO season finale of my favorite show. I won't even try to give you highlights. Go here Fishbiscuitland or here The Ack Attack two excellent and funny LOST bloggers.
I feel like a kid on that second Monday after school is out. You know that feeling... so now what? How long until school starts again?! Seriously---I don't know how I will survive if I have to wait until next January or February again. Stupid writer's strike. It's messed up my TV life.
I'm watching crappy TV and wierd movies so far. Ohh and I read 2 books this week. This won't last long. What are you saying?!? Go OUTSIDE? Bite your tongue! LOL.

Inkadinkadoo Thanks!

My favorite cards are usually the funny ones. Clever and cute catch my eye. Inkadinkadoo has some new little stamps that are just clever. My Lostie secret sister sent me four of them. What a nice surprise!

I used "Bad or Fattening" on this card. I cased the layout from a card made by my talented friend Rachel . :) This paper is from Treehouse Memories. It's an ice cream line called Collette's Creamery. Perfect, considering the ice cream and cupcakes stamped in the background.

I still need to make something with the other stamps. Thanks again secret sis!

THE Closet

I probably should have blogged about this little closet last fall. I took pictures and everything. Sometimes I take pictures of stuff and then never do anything with them. Am I the only one? I doubt it. I just trashed 182 items from my recycle bin. Junk photos. Some, I have no idea why I took. Others were duplicates or just evidence of my crappy photography skills.

So.... this was about a closets wasn't it? *grins* Oh yes! I'm so easily distracted!

There once was this funny little space in the corner of my basement. A closet at the end of our stairs. The nice thing about custom building your home is that you can sometimes tell the subcontractors to do extra stuff. In this case, we paid to have this wall finished with drywall and added a door to this little odd space. On the outside it looks nice.
We've been doing bits of finish work on the house here and there. Small projects. Shane has gotten pretty handy over the years. Anyway--we finally decided we would finish this little closet and turn it into a nice storage room with pantry style built-in shelving. The idea for this space is that when our family room area is finished, this will be a game, DVD/Video, and blanket, etc. storage for that room.

Back to the HANDY part. *laughs* Shane has done plenty of electrical, framing, and drywall hanging. Since the build of our house and finishing our basement bedrooms. This was his first attempt at drywall taping and mudding. Ummm..... I'll sumarize in a polite way. He never wants to do it again.

Bahahahahaha...I couldn't resist this photo. Looks like the mudding and sanding WON this round.

On the inside it looks like the rest of my unfinished basement. Concrete walls and bare 2x4s. It does have a little pull cord light thanks to my electrical wizard of a husband. Who to his great credit, did all the wiring and electrical finish work on this whole house. *beams with pride*

You wouldn't believe how much JUNK we had crammed into this little room. 3 shelves and boxes and boxes of stuff. We started cleaning things out July 20, 2007.

I found things I forgot about. Can you say...wedding gifts? Eeek! Anybody need a sombrero or two? How about a chili pepper pinata??? What about some crutches? I'm afraid to throw those out. As soon as I do--you know what will happen.

Oooo--look what I found! First--WALLS. And then--STUDS!!! Pun INTENDED. *wink* The next day July 21, 2007 the framing was done.

July 22, 2007. Itchy, Itchy, Itchy. I hate insulation. Then there's putting in some wiring for a new light. No more pull cord for us. We're movin' up to a real light switch. LOL.

Ahhh....the drywall. That started to go around July 24, 2007. That's a holiday in Utah. So he had a long holiday weekend to work on the closet. That probably took a day or two. Then the DREADED mudding and taping. This was the killer. He worked on this off and on during August and September. One coat, dry, sand. Alot of cussing. Another coat, dry, sand. More cussing along the way. He finally gave up the first part of October. The basement was too cold. That project was put aside for the winter.

Then TADA! Suddenly here comes Memorial Day weekend 2008 and ZOOOOOOM here we go again on the closet project! He had planned all along to put one more coat of mud on the walls. Nope. It's only a closet. Besides... did you see that photo up there??? Hahahaha!

Off to Lowe's and Home Depot to get just the right lumber for the project on Friday.

By Saturday May 25, 2008 we are here. The walls are cleaned from all the drywall dust. (Don't
ask about the rest of the basement.)

The bracing is up and dry. Now he's started on the small DVD/Video shelving on the narrow side of the closet.

And here's the right side. Plenty of room for blanket storage or pantry or whatever I want! What? It only took 10 months.

Next up, caulk and paint! I think I'm on paint duty. :)
